To help train successful Suzuki teachers, the Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA) has set up the following program. Teachers interested in studying the Suzuki philosophy, pedagogy and other aspects of the method enroll in courses corresponding to each book. The first course, Every Child Can!, covers the elements of Suzuki teaching, an understanding of far-reaching goals of the Suzuki method and understanding how to continue training in order to become a Suzuki teacher. Book 1 continues with a thorough study of the entire repertoire and techniques contained in Book 1 of the Suzuki Method. The schedule is designed to give teachers the option of taking Every Child Can!, Book 1 and 2 over a 16-day period. Books 2, 3, 4, etc. follow after a teacher has taken Book I. Read carefully the Suzuki Association of the Americas training guidelines for audition repertoire and deadline. See SAA Guidelines under 'Teacher Information.'

:: PRE-COURSE PREPARATION FOR TEACHERS ::
It is recommended that in addition to being prepared for the repertoire, the teacher participant should be conversant with the ideas presented in Suzuki’s book Nurtured by Love. All participants will be performing in class and expected to bring their own instruments (with the exception of pianists.) It is also recommended that participants bring a tape recorder and a notebook to all sessions. Attendance is required 100 percent of class time in order to register a course with the Suzuki Association of the Americas.

Auditors need to register in a timely fashion in order to reserve a space in the designated class. Auditor status is appropriate when a teacher is unable to meet the course’s attendance, observation or audition requirements. The auditor may play in class only with the permission of the instructor and may not register the course with the Suzuki Association of the Americas. Auditors may only observe their registered teacher training class in addition to all student activities and concerts. The tuition fee is the same for both participants and auditors.

CSI reserves the right to cancel teacher workshops if enrollment is insufficient. Note: In order for us to confirm workshops in a timely manner, please sign up early. You will be notified by May 10, 2008 if a workshop is canceled. If you choose to purchase a nonrefundable plane ticket before this date, the Institute will not be liable.

:: Teacher Observation of the Suzuki Student Institute ::
This opportunity is available for teachers who have completed a certain amount of training in the Suzuki method and wish only to observe the teaching of students enrolled in the Suzuki Student Institute, and for teachers who want an informal introduction to this kind of teaching. There is no course work or performing participation, only the observation of the faculty and the students at different levels of advancement. Observers are free to design their own schedule; however, observers may not attend Teacher Training classes or teachers workshops. Any adult who is not enrolled in the teacher workshops or attending with his or her own child or grandchild must enroll as an observer.
Observer fee: $100/day or $400/session
